Course Overview

This course is aimed at personnel who are working dealing with NPWs, in an environment where there are elevated radiation levels.
This course provides participants with the skills and knowledge to minimise their radiation exposure and work safely around nuclear reactors.

About this Course

This course does not involve nuclear engineering concepts and provides radiation protection skills and knowledge for those working with NPWs.
NPWs are managed by the Commonwealth and regulated under the ARPANS Act.
At a State level, personnel working around NPWs may be subject to requirements of the Radiation Safety Act, and other ARPANSA Codes of Practice and Safety Guides.
Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) legislation requires that companies provide workers with a safe system of work, which includes procedures; plans; training; supervision; etc.
This ‘safe workplace’ concept requires that workers are provided with a level of training to allow them to understand hazards and risks that exist within the workplace.
Assessment
There are multiple practical exercises and activities throughout the course, and there is a written theoretical assessment.

Certification
A Statement of Attainment is issued upon successful completion of this course
